For this school assignment, the challenge was to create a print ad for a music festival of our choice that might appear in Rolling Stone magazine. As a part of this assignment, we were tasked with developing our idea and showing our work through each stage of the creative process: from researching brand guidelines, identifying a target audience, writing a creative brief, putting together a mood board, and sketching various ideas before finally landing on a final image.
Choosing a music festival was easy for me: growing up in the 90s, one of the first CDs I ever purchased was Live at Reading by Nirvana, and the Reading and Leeds festival has held a special place in my heart every since. Beginning in 1955 as the National Jazz Festival, the current version of the Reading Music Festival is the oldest ongoing music festival in the UK. Over it’s nearly 70-year
history, Reading as hosted some of the biggest and most iconic names in music, including The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and Nirvana, along with contemporary acts such as Billie Eilish, Imagine Dragons, and countless others.

When designing this ad, I wanted to capture not on the energy and excitement of Reading, but also its history and continuity. Year after year, music lovers can count on the Reading Festival to deliver the biggest music celebration of the year. Using a mix of original illustration, bold typography, and Photoshop filters, the finished product is an ad that I believe captures that.
