For this school assignment, we were tasked with creating a 9X12” poster for a fictional movie concept. The film concept that I came up with is The Last Astronaut, which tells the story of a lone astronaut stranded on the moon after an undefined apocalyptic event ravages the Earth below. Despite the apocalyptic tone, I wanted the poster to reflect an epic, awe-inspiring, and slightly more optimistic tone, similar to old-school science fiction classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. With this idea in mind, I looked at not only the posters for these films for inspiration, but also posters and advertising for the various Star Wars films, as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The result is a movie poster that hopefully conveys something more than a disaster film: a story about love, hope, and optimism about the future of humanity.
